Selecting the Right Onions
Choose large sweet onions for the best onion rings recipe. White or yellow onions work great. They should be firm and fresh with no soft spots. Big onions give you nice thick rings that are easy to handle.
Ingredients Needed
- Two large onions
- One cup all purpose flour
- One cup breadcrumbs
- Two eggs
- One cup milk
- One teaspoon paprika
- Half teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper
- Oil for deep frying
Preparing the Onions
Peel the onions and cut them into half inch thick slices. Separate the slices into individual rings. Soak them in cold water for 15 minutes. This step in the onion rings recipe reduces the strong onion taste.
Set up your coating station with three shallow bowls. In the first bowl put flour mixed with salt pepper paprika and garlic powder. In the second bowl beat eggs with milk. Put breadcrumbs in the third bowl.
Drain the onion rings and pat them dry with paper towels. Now you are ready to coat them for frying.
Coating and Frying Process

Take one onion ring and dip it in the seasoned flour. Shake off excess flour. Next dip it in the egg mixture coating it completely. Finally press it into the breadcrumbs on both sides.
Place the coated ring on a plate and repeat with all rings. This double coating makes the onion rings recipe extra crispy. Let them rest for five minutes before frying.
Heat oil in a deep pan to 180 degrees celsius. Fry the onion rings in small batches. Do not crowd the pan or they will not be crispy. Fry for two to three minutes until golden brown on all sides.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt immediately while hot. Serve your crispy onion rings with ketchup ranch dressing or your favorite dip. This onion rings recipe makes the perfect crunchy snack.
